Shopping for party snacks with Adrian after lunch is fun. He puts me into the cart and pushes me leisurely through the store while I grab whatever I want from the shelves. At some point, however, I have to climb out of the caddy because there’s not enough room for me plus twenty bottles of soda. Not to mention the potato chips and pretzels.

After we cart everything home and prepare the house for tonight, Adrian drops me off at Gina’s to get my makeup done. I like Gina. She’s in chemistry with us, quite sporty, and yet the most natural beauty I know. Her amber hair is tied into a loose bun on top of her head today with countless stray wisps escaping here and there. She calls it her work-bun, and I’ve seen her wind her hair up into this careless style on many occasions when we had to do experiments in class.

Gina isn’t just an A-grade student, but she also runs her own beauty tutorial channel on YouTube, and her makeup skills are beyond amazing. She can make herself look like a model striding the catwalk with striking colors on her face just as well as she can create a clever natural look, as if she didn’t apply any makeup at all.

When she questions me about my wishes for tonight, I ask her to settle somewhere in between striking and natural, and maybe accent my eyes a little. She points me to some images in a magazine, and I show her exactly what I want.

Two hours later, when I stare in the mirror, it’s like a miracle occurred. I really look like a copy of the model I chose—wild hair, makeup, and all. After Gina heard about my plans to break the kiss-spell tonight, she even talked me into wearing one of her superhot outfits: a black corset leaving an enormous gap of naked skin above skintight, black hot pants, and a pair of rough leather, thigh-high boots with slender four-inch heels.

I’ve never really been the one who stood out in any crowd, but this afternoon I feel like Megan Fox, ready to take on the world.

“Honey, if that doesn’t pocket you a kiss,” Gina coos as she blows a peck on my cheek at the front door, “I don’t know what will.”

“Thanks!” I tell her, grinning big time, waving goodbye. “See you later at the party!”

Heading home on foot this time, because it’s only a couple of streets anyway, I wonder what kind of impression I’ll make on my guests. Pretty enough for anyone to dare kiss me? Judging from the glances and smirks coming my way from a group of young men on the sidewalk, it’s certainly in the cards.

I can’t wait to hear what Adrian thinks about Gina’s makeover skills. Since I left the keys with him earlier, he should be in my house by now, setting up his sound system for the party. It’s a lot better than what we have and can easily be controlled with his laptop.
